After 16 years, we only just discovered this recently. My husband and I gave each other waterfall books for Christmas….Mine on photographing waterfalls and his on the Waterfalls of the Blue Ridge. It is interesting how the two books compare. This was my choice for our start of summer adventure. It is hard to believe it is just up the Blue Ridge Parkway from the Sweet Vista Cabin rental near West Jefferson, NC. This moderate to strenuous hike will take you down 800 feet elevation and about 1.5 miles into the Johns River Gorge along the New Year Creek. You will be delighted by three waterfalls…The Cascades, The Glen Burney Falls and not to disappoint a tall intricate falls of Glen Marie. Be sure to take some water, wear comfortable shoes and know your cellphone doesn’t work at the bottom. Please stay off the rocks. It is slippery and dangerous. Enjoy from a safe distance.

It seems Spring has finally sprung in the High Country of North Carolina. Our recent guests from West Virginia experienced the rolling in of the fog across the Blue Ridge Parkway. It brought a bit of a chill too. However, the beautiful spring sun helped burn off the fog by 10 am. It seems they had a day of hiking and shopping near Boone and Blowing Rock, NC.

I made the recommendation that they head a couple of miles up the Parkway and check out the Cascades at Jeffers Park. It is well worth a peek especially with all the rain we have been having.
